LASIK and Glasses

I was thinking about my contacts and how I love them so much more than glasses because it seems like I can see more space at better quality. It made me think why people even use glasses. Besides the obvious discomforts and difficulties of using contacts I think practice and design would eventually over come that. Then I thought about LASIK and it seeming to become infinitely more affordable each day and wondered if that will ever over put out glasses and contacts. The fact that I came to realize is that glasses are a style accessory and I don’t think they will ever go out. Even if LASIK becomes more affordable than glasses (which it eventually will do) people will still wear them don’t you think?

The eyes have to mature enough to be eligible for lasik, for one, so disposable contacts will exist for that reason alone. Lasik is a shaving of the eyeball, though, and is only a solution to an immediate problem. Look into the permanent contact. It’s removable (with surgery, I believe) but leaves the eye tissue intact, whereas lasik as a 30-40 year lifespan. For that reason, I think we’ll see less lasik, and more of a permanent contact solution. People will always wear glasses for the style that they provide. They’ll at least wear the frames.

From what I’ve read those lenses replace the whole natural lens usually in the case of an eye problems such as cataracts. Another problem with permanent lenses is that unlike natural ones, your body can’t change the curvature so you would need a separate pair of glasses for near-sighted things like reading.

what is the issue here…? until there is a laser treatment for astigmatism your question is pointless. even for those who are treatable with LASIK, the effect wears off after 10 or so years; whether or not they are important as an accoutrement of fashion is irrelevant to their longevity.

Style and fashion go in and out every season; improving someone’s sight is a much bigger deal.
