Google Chrome
In a few moments Google will release it’s Internet browser, Chrome, for public beta. Chrome will feature common internet browser features like plug-ins and tabbed browsing. The new thing that Google is trying with there browser is separating the processes of the browser by tabs. Normally an Internet browser performs all of it’s operations under the same process broadening the opportunities for inefficiency. With Chrome, if a website crashes, it will only crash the tab that that process is being used in. You will not have to see the spinning pinwheel of death while the whole browser is crashing because of one tab. Just like a computers operating system, Chrome will have a task manager that will allow you to view and manage all of the browsers processes.
To me, this makes so much sense. The Internet is the biggest part of our every day computing, it only makes sense to give it it’s own processes to manage like an OS. It would stink if one application crashed your entire computer.
Currently Chrome is only available for PC though a Mac version is under development.
